New York Man Comes Forward as $298M Powerball winner

Wednesday, February 6, 2019

David Johnson, 56 who is a trucker driver from Brooklyn is ready to live his best life after finding out he is the winner of the second-biggest jackpot won in New York with Powerball. Johnson’s prize amount was an insane $298.3 million, he bought the winning ticket from a store located opposite his workplace which was Arnold’s Service Station on Linden Boulevard for just $5, before going back to work and not checking it. It wasn’t until a friend who he worked with, rang him and said “Hey Dave! Somebody won the Powerball by the gas station”. He still didn’t think anything of it, and didn’t think that there could even be a possibility that he was the winner as he’s never really experienced good luck in his life. Luckily (ironically), his friend phoned him again, begging him to check his ticket and finally a couple of days later, he checked and realised he’d won on his journey to work. He then went to the shop, to have the clerk check the ticket, and they both saw the message “BIG WINNER” which got David very excited and had him jumping in the store. He’s opted to receive the winnings as a lump sum of $180,227,550 rather than the gradual instalments, and the final amount will be $114,091,248 after paying tax. Johnson’s been pretty smart, and hired an attorney to help him with investments and looking after his family. But one thing is for sure, he is going to have fun by buying his dream car which is a red Porsche so that people will spot him instantly when he drives down the street. Great plans, and what a great future he will have now, as David has already quit work and looks forward to enjoying early retirement.
