A homeless man has finally found himself the luck he needed, winning $500,000 on a scratch off ticket with the Colorado Lottery.

It was more than six years of being homeless, dealing with alcoholism, losing his business and a divorce which spiralled into the story that explains how he lost everything. However this man, Michael Engfors never gave up, he went on pushing on till his luck changed.

He spent $10 on a lottery ticket (which to him was an unusual and significant amount) and realised after scratching off the first number that he had hit the jackpot! A spokesperson for Aspen Homeless shelter says it couldn’t have happened to a better type of person, someone who is forced to normally use a homeless shelter.

He verified his winnings at a gas station, going on to spend a final weekend sleeping on the floor at Saint Mary Catholic Church reflecting on the future. Engfors plans on using the money to partially fund finding his daughter who he hasn’t seen in over 20 years, to enable them to reconnect.
